In this episode of the Yoga for Balance podcast, Heather Gjerde speaks to Hannah Block of Union Yoga in San Diego, CA. Hannah shares how yoga supported her through trauma and her eating disorder.

Learn what she's doing now to support and help others on the same path.

About Hannah Block

Hannah was introduced to yoga while in treatment for her eating disorder, trauma, and grief. She had lived many years in a cycle of self deprecation and dissociation. The practice of yoga introduced her to a new relationship with her body, thoughts, and spirituality. Her daily practice began to reveal the ways in which she was depleting herself of life and love. After treatment she continued to practice yoga at home as she could not afford to go to a studio. After two years of home practice she went to Happy U Yoga where she began work for trade and completed a 200 hour Hatha training with Karson McGinley.

Hannah has been teaching across San Diego for the past four years. Her classes tend to be slow and steady, allowing space and time to explore the sensation of postures and transitions.

She continued her studies with Robin Christ’s Anusara Philosophy Immersion and got her massage therapy license. Soul of Yoga 500 hour training gave Hannah the opportunity to dive deeper into practices for people struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, and addiction. She had the honor of studying with Joe Barnet, Leslie Kaminoff, Antonio Sausys, Leila Durga, and Amy Weintraub. Hannah is excited to unite together in creating a safe space to heal and connect as she has found in her own life the opposite of addiction is connection.
